i. Complementary feeding practices

Answer:

The nutrient requirement of the infant for the first few months can be easily met by breast milk. After six months, however, breast milk done is not sufficient to meet the growing needs of the infant. When breast milk is no longer enough to meet the nutritional needs of the infant, complementary foods should be added to the diet of the child. The transition from exclusive breastfeeding to family foods referred to as complementary feeding.

It is a gradual process which begins from the moment other foods (liquid food preparations and solid food preparations) are started and continues until the time the child is completely taken off the breast. It is better to introduce these foods only around 4-6 months along with breastfeeding. By the age of one year, the infant should be ready to eat the family food.
